About the California State Championship

The purpose of this race series is to allow racers from all 3 major clubs that race in California to compete against each other at each clubs' respective "home" track for 1 regularly scheduled race event. The total number of races in this series is 3, and the rounds will be spaced to accommodate the largest breaks during the regular season of all 3 clubs, so that racers will be able to go to other clubs without infringing on their own racing at their home club.

This series is also to encourage racers to visit other clubs facilities, try out different tracks, and expand their skill set by racing different competitors. In turn, the clubs will have larger turnouts during these weekends, and the larger numbers of racers will generate more revenue for the clubs themselves, as well as the trackside vendors, and sponsors of the event.

It is also intended for this series to foster a greater sense of community among the racers themselves, allowing them to develop new avenues for their hobby, and also allowing for those on a very tight budget to run a short series and still be in the running for a class championship.

(and more importantly, this will encourage and promote the off-season sport of bench racing by providing the ultimate form of a bragging right :D)

How does this series work?

Participants will run 2 rounds outside of their home clubs.
Example, if you are a WERA racer, you would do 1 round with WSMC, and 1 round with AFM on their regular race weekend.

The proposed dates will put 2 months between each round, and will be run on a non-conflicting race weekend.
Example: for the May round, WERA typically runs this 1st weekend of the month, WSMC and AFM run later in the month.

The class you normally run in is the class you would race in at the other clubs.
Example: If you race 600 Superbike at AFM, you would race 600 Mod Prod at WSMC, and "C" Superbike at WERA.

Points will be accumulated in the California State Championship separately from the class points in the regular club standings.
Example: If you normally race at WSMC, and you go to the WERA race weekend, you will have your regular race finishes based on the one-day reciprocity license rules (no points accumulated towards overall club class standings). Your finish positions and class points for the California State Championship will be based on how many State Championship participants are in your races. For instance - if you run 750 Mod Prod and there are 25 people on the grid, but only 12 are competing in the State Championship, your State Championship points and finish position will be based on how you do against those racers, not the regular club competitors.

***The classes chart on the home page shows which classes are which for the different clubs.***

There will be a license for this series, the cost will be approx. $25-30, to cover admin fees, and will take care of your reciprocity licenses with the other clubs. The sign up will be on this website, and you will only be able to sign up for this license on this website or through the contact person on this website.

***The rules for this series can be found in the Rulebooks section on this website. (There's not that many). The rules for the bike classes are also in the Rulebooks section as well
